Mrs.Renuka Herath, former UNP Minister and candidate at the last General Elections, is to be sworn in as a member of Parliament for the Nuwara Eliya District to fill the vacancy created by the imprisonment of former UNP and SLFP Minister S. B. Dissanayake who is serving a jail term of two years after being convicted by the Supreme Court for criminal defamation of the Court.
Last month`s sittings of Parliament were disrupted for a number of days by the the TNA members of Parliament who staged a sit-in protest in the Well of the House chanting slogans against the Government and the Armed Forces. The Speaker W.J.M.Lokubandara adjourned sittings after the TNA protest disrupted the normal business of the House.
However, sittings during the current month will be held without such problems as the TNA parliamentarians `Will behave as the LTTE and the Government have agreed to hold peace talks in Geneva during the middle of this month,` ruling party parliamentarians said yesterday.
