A father of a student attending Dambulla Weera Mohan Jayamaha Vidyalaya requests the authorities to look into the harassment of students preparing for Year-5 scholarship exams.
A resident of the area, E.M. Jayatissa Bandara has complained to the Zonal Director of Education A.A.G. Dissanayake, that teachers, giving private tuition for the scholarship exam, often harass students for not attending their tuition classes.
He stated that one of the teachers beat his son and got other students also to beat him. The teacher who corrects the exercises, often marks, even the correct answers, as wrong, causing embarrassment and pain of mind to the students, which affects them psychologically.
Mr Dissanayke also stated that most parents refrained from complaining against this injustice to avoid victimisation of their children.
However, the class teacher, Janaka Kirioruwa, who refuted this allegation, said that all students receive equal attention from the teachers.
