Amidst fears of terrorist attacks in Colombo, education authorities are planning to provide intensified security in schools located in the city.
Western Province Education Director D.A.D.L.Hemachandra told the Daily Mirror yesterday they would summon Zonal and Divisional Education Directors next week to discuss ways of providing additional security to schools.
He said a final decision would be taken in consultation with Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and Western Province Chief Minister Reginold Cooray.
The principal of a leading Colombo school said as a precautionary measure they would start checking the school bags of every student from next Monday.
?We need not panic unnecessarily, but, it is better to be aware of the situation,? he said.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer said they had already intensified security at major institutions and public places in Colombo and therefore people should not be misled by rumours.
