The Korean Government has pledged US 2.3 million to elevate the standard of the Jaffna Technical College, one of the Technical Colleges of the Department of Technical Education and Training under the purview of the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training. The agreement was signed by Minister Piyasena Gamage yesterday.
A plan has already been drawn up to elevate 09 chosen technical colleges, one from each province. The other technical colleges earmarked under this plan according to Minister Gamage are those at Anuradhapura, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Maradana, Kandy, Galle and Trincomalee.
The advanced technical colleges are expected to impart international level technological knowledge and recognized diplomas. A vehicle worth Rs. 4 million was handed over to the Ministry yesterday as part of the elevation of the Jaffna Technical College to the status of a college of technology, by Korean Ambassador in Sri Lanka Lim Jae Hong.
