THE hartal by two Sinhala organisations in Trincomalee protesting LTTE atrocities against the Sinhala community in the East, continued for the second day yesterday bringing normal life to a halt.
Shops and businesses remained closed for the second consecutive day while public transport too was paralysed as a result of the Hartal.
Trincomalee Police said there was no incident or breach of peace reported during the hartal.
The Sinhala Vimukthi Sanvidhanaya and Negenahira Sinhala Pibidena Sanvidanaya declared the hartal urging for swift measures by the Government to arrest the spate of killings by the LTTE.
With yesterday being a public holiday, all public institutions and schools remained closed. `Also the transport service was totally crippled yesterday due to the hartal,` our Trincomalee Correspondent said.
Although there were no major incidents affecting the peaceful environment in Trincomalee, four explosions had been reported including a suspected hand grenade blast in a house in the Trincomalee town. Police are investigating. All shops in the area remained closed yesterday.
The two Sinhala organisations announced that they declared the hartal protesting against the frequent hartals organised by pro-LTTE organisations in Trincomalee paralysing public and private sector activities.
The hartal will continue today.

| Rising to the occasion is the name of the game. If you are attacked and discriminated then you should fight against irrespective of who they are. Justice is one thing for all not for one segment of the community. Freedom is for all!! |

Dear all,
Sinhala racism is not better than the LTTE racism. This situation indirectly supports the LTTE terrorists.
A protest against the Wanni tiger led demonstrations held in Trincomalee during the last few days has been started by now in Kantale and Trincomalee. This has been organized by a Sinhalese racist group. It is reported that the transport has come to a stand still and all shops are closed in Kantalai disrupting the normal life in the area.
The Convener of People's Organization in Trincomalee, JVP Parliamentarian Jayantha Weerasekara said the protest demonstration against Tamil community in Trincomalee will only benefit the Wanni tigers. They will be supporting the Wanni tigers indirectly since this again can aggravate the normal life of masses in these areas. He made these comment on a question raised by 'Lanka Truth'.
The protest by Wanni tigers against 5 deaths of students ended on 9th instant which continued for a number of days. Because of this demonstration day to day life of the civilians was seriously affected, said Mr Wijesekara. He said 'Wanni tigers'motive was to disrupt the normal life of the Tamil community which affected them very badly. The people tolerated because they were scared of the arms of the Wanni tigers.
Mr Wijesekera added that,'if there is a genuine feeling what the demonstrators should do is to assist the public to strengthen their normal life instead of paralyzing it. The disruption on the eve of Thaipongal festival will severely affect the Tamil community. This will also endorse the hypothesis carried out by the Wanni tigers that the Sinhalese are acting against the Tamil community', stated the Parliamentarian.
The vehicle of Mr. Jayanthe Wijesekera, Parliamentarian of Trincomalee District was damaged when certain elements behaved violently when he tried to persuade people in Trincomalee to facilitate Hindus to celebrate Thai Pongol festival.
If you want to defeat the LTTE terrorism, one of the most important things is to separate the LTTE terrorists from the peace loving, democratic Tamil majoriry. Sinhala racism can't defeat the LTTE racism. We all Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burger and others must unite by word and deed to defeat the LTTE racism and separatism. | Hewage7..I think the Muslims from the East too should be with the Sinhala demonstrators as they too are victims of the 'Blood Thirsty group'. The LTTE is only concerned with recruiting cadres to their unit whether it be a Child or a young girl and they are not concerned with any of the so-called 'Tamil grievance'. All Innocent Sinhalese & Muslim should unite in the Eastern province to safe guard their families from these 'Blood Thirsty hound'. All necessary steps should be taken to meet this important strategy. |

MorafiNes,
All peace loving Lankan communities must unite against LTTE tribal butchers.
Further, these idiots are working overtime to destroy the peaceful social fabric of the country . They are extremely subversive. |
