Prisons officials handed over one of their colleagues to the CID for forging President Mahinda Rajapakse`s signature on a letter recommending him to secure a jailer post in Welikada Prison, sources said yesterday.
The suspect had earlier been suspended for securing the post presenting false education certificates at the interview, prison sources said.
Following the discovery of his cheating, he was interdicted. Later he came up with a letter carrying the forged letter head of the President`s office and the signature of President Rajapakse. The letter requested prisons officials to reinstate the interdicted jailer.
When the prisons officials had inquired from the President`s office, it was revealed that no such letter had been issued and they were ordered to be hand the culprit over to the CID for further investigations.
