President Mahinda Rajapakse in one of his first tasks in the new year, visited Sri Dalada Maligawa yesterday morning, and paid homage to the sacred tooth relic.
The President and Shiranthi Rajapakse were received by Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara.
After attending religious observances, the President declared open the `Nenasala` computer centre located in the Maligawa premises.
Addressing the public at the ceremony, Diyawadana Nilame said that Nenasala computer centre was intended to provide free computer training to the school children of the area.
Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Leader of the House, Central Provincial Council, M.G. Jayaratne, Provincial Minister Ediriweera Weerawardene, PC member, Dilum Amunugama, Kandy SLFP organiser M.G. Jayasinghe, Central Province DIG Nimal Mediwaka were present at the occasion.
Meanwhile it is reported that the media personnel who called over at the Sri Dalada Maligawa yesterday morning to cover the President`s visit to the temple faced a harrowing experience when they were denied entry by Presidential Security Unit This unexpected scenario created turmoil at the Maligawa. A senior official of the PSD, who was harsh and rude to the media personnel, said the media personnel were not required at all as the PSD could cover the event.
However, a senior official of the Presidential Secretariat and the Diyawadana Nilame appealed to the media to wait till the President arrived.
