Intelligence reports seen by The Island reveals that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are working towards Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) in the near future thereby taking the international community for a ride.
Reports say the LTTE is mapping out a campaign to get them de-proscribed in several countries, placing the blame on the government, saying that the government had failed to help and bring relief to the Tamils living in the North and the East
According to the reports the LTTE is expected to appeal to the international community shortly for direct transfer of funds to assist them.
The LTTE wants to tell the international community that the government had failed to assist the people even after a massive disaster as the tsunami and also cite the Supreme Court judgement and the legal constraints on the P-TOMS.
Another plan by the LTTE is to destabilise the East even further and blame it on the Karuna faction and the Security forces. A senior Defence official said that they have received information that the LTTE would go out on a major campaign in the East. The official also pointed out that the present situation in the East is not favourable to LTTE`s plan to declare UDI.
The official also said it was not advisable for the government to get the United Nations involved now since it would be beneficial to the LTTE and it would certainly help the LTTE to achieve its objective of UDI. He pointed out that the government of India is totally reluctant to get the United Nations involved in Kashmir purely due to this.
