Reclamation of paddy fields will not usher in a Parakrama era. It is high time our leaders understand it. People of this country are not so gullible as to swallow the bait of Ranil Wickremesinghe who wants to save us from our dignified and age-old cultural moorings and make us subservient to foreign elements, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse said at a mammoth rally at Harispaththuwa on Sunday (11).
The Premier said it is really a joke that Ranil who is ever ready to hand over the entire economy to multinational companies, is talking of an accelerated national development. Our policy is quite different, aimed at enhancing the gross national product by 8%, with the participation of middle and small scale local industrialists. It is to achieve this target that we commenced a programme of work recently giving pride of place to local industrialists.
`Not stopping at that we also brought them under one solid organisation to familiarise them with modern technology so that they would have a place in the competitive world market,` he said.
He said the Vocational Training Authority established by the UPFA Government provided employment to thousands of youth more than ever before. So let us build a country of our own, and multinational companies should not be allowed to lay claims on it.
The Prime Minister stressed his determination to usher in a new era of where the indigenous culture as well as those of all minorities are preserved with their respective identities.
All communities he said, should join irrespective of any social differences to build an atmosphere where each of them could live with dignity
