The proposed Colombo -Kandy expressway is a mammoth project estimated to cost Rs. 30 billion.
It will have the following characteristics: -
The starting point would be the Kadawatha interchange. The end point would be Katugastota.
It will be 98 kilometres long. The design speed would be 80 to 100 kilometres.
The Kandy expressway will have dual 4 to dual one lanes with extention potential. The number of interchanges will go up to eleven.
It will consist of 31 main bridges and 61 minor bridges and also 10 tunnels.
The traffic capacity would be ADT in 2010 from 8000 to 25,000.
The Bureau of Infrastructure Investment (BII) of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) issued an invitation to prospective investors to finance, construct, operate and maintain the proposed Colombo-Kandy expressway.
The client will be the Road Development Authority (RDA) on behalf of the government of Sri Lanka.
The promotion facilitation and the coordination will be done by the BII and the BOI.
