The Department of Examinations will conduct investigations regarding some supervisors who had given some packets containing question papers of the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, to tuition masters and children`s newspapers soon after the completion of the exam on Saturday.Commissioner General of Examination Anura Edirisinghe told the Daily Mirror yesterday that unopened question paper packets, should be returned to the Department immediately after the exam, and handing them to outsiders was banned under exam regulations.
?We have received such information from parents. We will initiate inquiries into this matter and impose stiff penalties on the culprits. Before the exam we had educated the supervisors and the invigilators in this regard. It is a serious situation if they continue to do it despite our warnings,? he said.
However, he said that the exam was conducted well with no major incidents being reported this year, and evaluation of papers would start in the middle of next month. The results would be released at the end of the month. A total of 305,595 students sat the exam at 2641 exam centres countrywide.
