Child recruitment dropping in East, UNICEF claims

UNICEF said it recorded a decrease in the incidents of child recruitment carried out by the LTTE in the highly volatile Batticaloa district this month.
UNICEF spokesman Geoffrey Keele said the decrease in the number of child recruitments carried out by the LTTE in Batticaloa proves without a doubt the situation can be controlled through negotiations. Mr. Keele said the drop in reports of child recruitment recorded so far from Batticaloa bears significance as statistics prior to July were very high.
?Naturally we make our final calculations for the respective months only at the end of that particular month so we don`t have the exact number of recruitments for August. However the reports we have received so far are very encouraging,? he said.
UNICEF said it received reports of 97 child recruitments carried out by the LTTE in July in the North and East out of which 55 were from Batticaloa.
However during August the reports of child recruitment received so far are far below the previous months although the final tally will only be calculated at the end of the month.
The LTTE has come under severe criticism from child`s rights groups, most notably from UNICEF, for the rate of child combatants recruited to the organisation despite the implementation of a ceasefire. Mr. Keele said there is always an opportunity to completely resolve the burning issue of child recruitment by the rebels if both the government and the LTTE maintain permanent peace.

Only 97 children taken from their parents in July, not bad, not bad. For the kidnapped children mothers and fathers each of these children is precious.
So how many children have to be kidnapped in a month before it is reason to be conserned? 200, 1000 or 10000.
The children?s parents had dreams for their children. Maybe the parents hoped some day the child could go to University, now their faith is decide by the insane dictator. Maybe they get killed or have to kill their neighbours or relatives.
For Prabakharan the kidnapped children are only pawns in the mad mans chess game.

IndraRajha seems to be grumpy, maybe he sees the LTTE is loosing and is doomed. I can ensure you that Mr. Kadirgamar is in Heaven. It would not surprise me if God requested Jesus to move one seat to the right to make room for Kadirgamar at Gods table.
Just as the senseless murder of Prime Minister Gandhi the murder of Kadirgamar has severely backfired on the LTTE. All credibility has been lost and their support is dwindling. They have even managed to embarrass their Norwegian partners in crime, a.k.a the 'peace facilitators'.
The child recruitment is another evidence of the LTTE atrocities against the Tamils. The last three years it has been the Tamils that have been on the receiving end of the LTTE terror. The endless number of Tamil children that get their life?s destroyed by the dictator is frightening.
What?s even more frightening is that no action is taken to stop the grotesque abuse of these children. |

It's not dropping.. Yes,
There are no more children to abduct, so it's dropping.
The other reason is the LTTE carders are running to Kilinochchi to save their lives from Karuna and the gang. So there are no one to abduct children..
These are the reasons for less child recruitment in the East.... |

UNICEF statistics do not carry weight with the people of Batticaloa District, especially those in remote areas. The average Tamil in Batticaloa relies heavily on God?s natural system and his / her rights and wrongs are as per that system. Until Batticaloa parents are educated about the Western system of democracy, the UNICEF cannot claim credit for any change in social problems. If indeed there was a problem previously, then now it would have gone underground, out of the reach of the UNICEF and other Western agencies, which come with their own personal agendas to impress those in their circles. The rights and wrongs of Child-Recruitment should be weighed as part of the total issue and cannot be isolated.
Those who truly seek to help children in Batticaloa area need to work through service organizations such as Yoga Swami Orphanage at Chengalladdi which is very well structured and is based on spiritual values of Saint Yoga Swami. UNICEF seems to operate through its Western system to which the people of Batticaloa cannot relate as they are today. Statistics by UNICEF from that area would therefore be unreliable and misleading.

Once again it is not my duty to teach others how to treat their children. But I cannot let these things happen without protest.
Supporting LTTE is one thing but defending the child recrement (willingly or by force) is totally against the ethics. LTTE have admitted that they have people under military age. If UNICEF is not doing a proper job to stop this crime, Tamil people should find another way to stop it.

Sources in the High Commission of Britain said that after comprehensive investigation that Home office found clear link between the LTTE and TRO.
?We have found that some of TRO?s money is used for giving training for child combatants,? a source added.
CHARITY MONEY (TRO) SPENT on training the BABY brigade.
I am sure this is a lie by British. LTTE and TRO do not have any connections. LTTE will deny this. |
