The investigation into the kidnapping of police inspector Jayaratnam and the murder of the TamilNet editor Dharmaratnam Sivaratnam (Taraki) have led to a dead end, a police source revealed.
Police Investigators believe the statement, issued by the Theraputthabaya force, claiming responsibility for the murder seems to be false and aimed at taking the sleuths on the wrong track. Police say there was no evidence to connect the group to the murder and they are helpless regarding this matter.
The police have asked the Red Cross to assist them with the investigations on the missing Jayaratnam. The Red Cross have failed to give any new facts regarding the missing person even though they have conducted investigation in Jaffna.
The police hope as a last resort that the mobile phone statements of the victims might throw some new light into the matter and help them with the investigations.
Meanwhile, the police suspect that since Inspector Jayaratnam was considered as one of the best Intelligence officers in the force, the LTTE would have abducted him.
