Many an eyebrow has been raised over why Parliamentarians, save three, refused to respect the devotees who were massacred by the LTTE twenty years ago.
When Parliament met yesterday, JHU parliamentary group leader Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero requested the house to observe two minutes silence to mark the 20th anniversary of the attack on the Sri Mahabodhi, where nearly two hundred Buddhist devotees including children and pregnant mothers were massacred by the LTTE.`A0
To his surprise, all others, except two other JHU MPs, who were present at that time, ignored his call and the parliamentary proceedings continued amidst interruptions.
The JHU was only able to observe silence for about 40 seconds owing to the prevailing commotion.
