IGP Chandra Fernando said that there was no clear evidence that the LTTE had abducted the missing Police Inspector T. Jeyaratnam.
`We can?t point fingers at them for the abduction,` IGP Fernando said, adding that no important evidence or a lead had been found of the IP, attached to the Mount Lavinia police, missing for the past two weeks.
Several special police teams had been deployed to trace him, the IGP said.
However, the wife of the missing inspector, Sarala Jeyaratnam, accused the LTTE of abducting her husband and said that her husband had been receiving death threats from the LTTE for the past one and half years.
The ICRC has written to the LTTE Political Wing Leader S.P.Thamilselvan inquiring about the missing police officer, but they were yet to receive a response from the LTTE, an ICRC spokeman said.
