Ananda College, Colombo was shut down indefinitely on Monday since situation was not conducive to continuing the academic activities, education ministry sources said.
The academic activities cannot continue due to the parents and old boys protesting against the suspension of the Principal D. E. Abeyratne, who was found guilty, by a special Presidential Investigation Unit, of having taken bribes to admit students to Year one classes in the school, ministry sources said.
`Parents and old boys take the school children to their protest campaigns,` the sources said adding that principals of seven schools have been suspended by the PIU, but there were no disturbances in those other schools.
Ministry sources added that the students of Ananda College were used by certain political parties for their politically oriented campaigns against the government.
The sources said that despite the closure of the premises for the students, teachers and other officials must report to work as usually.
The Criminal Investigation Department is expected to take in two suspended principals for further questioning, sources said.
