THE Highways Ministry will shortly call tenders to improve and modernise the Colombo-Galle highway.
Ministry Secretary S. Amarasekere told the Daily News yesterday that the Road Development Authority (RDA) is preparing the designs for the reconstruction of the 155 km highway.
`The preliminary work of the project will be over by the end of April. We hope to call tenders for the reconstruction afterwards. The project includes the expansion of the highway at certain points, the construction of separate lanes for cyclists and pedestrians and resurfacing the road,` he said.
Amarasekere said World Bank has agreed to provide financial assistance for the project.
`The World Bank has pledged Rs. 21 million for the reconstruction from Colombo to Kalutara,` he said.
