KANDY - A gang of ten, suspected to be members of the Colombo underworld was arrested by the special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Kandy DIG Headquarters.
Three of the gangsters, according to police, are from Kandy.
They were produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate Harsha Setunge, who remanded them till March 16.
According to preliminary inquiries it had been disclosed that the gangsters had been in Kandy to make preparations to kill a resident in Ratnapura.
The gang was busted while planning their ?operation? at Mahaiyawa in Kandy.
The contract for the murder of the Ratnapura resident was said to be Rs. 100,000 of which the gang had collected Rs. 20,000 as advance. The operation had been delayed till the person who had given the contract left the island, investigations disclosed.
The police took into custody a motorcycle following the arrest of the gang.
Some of the gangsters were suspected of being involved in several killings in Colombo, according to the police.
