The Jathika Hela Urumaya has urged government leaders to get the Army involved in tsunami relief operations in the northeast, in a bid to ensure justice in the procedure.
JHU leader, Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera said though he had requested President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse to involve the Army and STF in tsunami relief distribution in the North and East, the government was not responding apparently due to LTTE threats.
The Thera said the North and East Sinhala Organisation (NESO) had also demanded the non-involvement of the LTTE and TRO in relief distribution in North and East through a sathyagraha since injustice was being meted out to the Sinhala, Muslim and non-LTTE Tamils in the area.
The JHU leader said the government was yet to respond to the Sathyagraha launched near the Trincomalee clock tower on March 12.
The Muslim Women`s Centre on Research in Kalmunai had also claimed that there were many Muslim families which had not received basic tsunami relief due to the present structure in relief distribution.
Meanwhile, the JHU also expressed concern over alleged moves to remove Sinhala Communities in the Eastern Coast under the pretext of implementing the 200-metre coastal buffer zone conditions.
The party charged that a TNA MP was settling Tamils in state land around Sinhala and Muslim villages in the Kantale area.
