Most postal services including the distribution of mail yesterday came to a stand still as postal employees stayed away from work after submitting sick notes.
Postal and Telecommunication Employees` Association sources said the trade union action asking for 25 demands would be continued today (17).
Though the counters at the G.P.O. were open no work was done due to the absence of employees.
The employees including the acting post master general were on sick leave.
Postal and Telecommunication Officers` Association General Secretary K.S.Weerasekera said staff officers and employees in Regional Post Offices, Accounts offices, and Postal Superintendent offices had also joined the strike.
After twenty five years postal employees in the Northern and Eastern provinces too had resorted to trade Union action to win their demands.
