A deputy minister and a former minister flared into a major argument and nearly came to blows at a meeting of the Kandy District Coordinating Committee yesterday.
The argument started when former minister Lakshman Kiriella said five million rupees from his decentralized budget funds had been spent for some development work of Deputy Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Reports said the deputy minister and the former minister
shouted at the top of their voices over the allocation of land with the President`s children and Mr. Kiriella`s wife being mentioned.
While they were arguing Hewaheta Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Dharmasiri Bandara (UNP) reportedly went towards Mr. Aluthgamage in a threatening manner and when they were almost ready for an exchange of blows Minister Jayaratne who was presiding calmed them down.
