UPFA Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa yesterday told the House that it has now transpired that the caller who posed as Minister Lal Kantha and contacted the ITN during the live telecast of a political debate was an individual employed at the residence of Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake.
Weerawansa said: `The mobile telephone which was used by the impersonator belonged to a person employed by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake at the latter`s house`. Referring to a news item on a website, the JVP Parliament Group leader said the CID had uncovered that the particular telephone belonged to a woman employed at Karunanayake`s residence.
`This is a very serious issue since this particular woman had told the police that she had lost her cellular phone on a previous day,` Weerawansa noted.
Weerawansa`s statement was with regard to an incident where a telephone call was made by a viewer to ITN`s live television show Thulawa claiming himself to be Minister Lal Kantha.
`It is this same Karunanayake who says there should be decorum in Parliament,` Weerawansa charged.
Karunanayake asked the MP to refrain from making frivolous charges and to act as a responsible MP.
