Higher Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said the Supreme Court decision invalidating his expulsion from the UNP has spurred his endeavour to be of service to the country and nation and opened avenues for other politicians to support a development effort undertaken according to a national agenda without rigidly confining themselves to party politics.
A people`s representative should always identify national priorities and act accordingly. The fundamental request of the majority of the people including the Maha Sangha and clergy of other denominations is for the major political parties to come into a consensus in finding solutions to major national problems.
The Minister expressed these sentiments when he called on Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddharta Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter and received his blessings on Thursday (February 17) afternoon.
Fielding questions from the media, Minister Bogollagama said the Supreme Court decision had helped to stabilise the rights of an MP and created an environment where everyone could join hands to create a more democratic structure within Parliament.
He said that people were now requesting his other comrades held prisoners within the UNP to heed the President`s request to work according to a national agenda to develop the country. The government had now taken over the responsibility of rebuilding the nation by transforming the tsunami catastrophe into a blessing.
`Everyone had the opportunity to contribute towards reactivating entrepreneurs in tsunami affected areas and several other development fields,` he added.
Therefore everyone should forget party politics momentarily and come forward to perform his or her duty by the nation.
