At a special meeting held at the auditorium of the D.S Senanayake library in Kandy on Friday (11), to agitate for the release of former minister S.B. Dissanayake from imprisonment, UNP parliamentarian, Rajitha Senaratne said that in the past, judges adjudicated the law impartially, like celestial beings come down to earth to emancipate the people who are suffering due to various causes but today, S.B. Dissanayake is suffering in the prison despite Mahanayake Theras, artistes and civil society queuing to sign the petition calling for his release. `Eminent legal expert from England, Lord Bevan was amazed at the decision meted out to S.B.,` Mr. Senaratne said.
Speaking further Mr. Senaratne said `S.B. Dissanayake made such a statement at `Vap Magula`, in keeping with a decision taken by the party. On another occasion the President said that the judiciary and the police are corrupt and hence it is against the President action should be filed,` he said and added that SB had been jailed as part of a conspiracy.
`SB is a political prisoner who expected everyone to be gentlemen. He is political genius, having functioned as the general secretary of the SLFP and the national organiser of the UNP. As a hardcore SLFP member he saved Chandrika but today there is no one to save her except people such as Mangala, who is like an obsolete coin. SB wrote Chandrika`s election manifesto and today he is writing while in prison` he said, adding that the President is making every effort to imprison Ravi and myself, like S.B.,` he said.
Kandy district UNP MP, Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Provincial Council opposition leader Wasantha Aluvihare, Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake and former PC member Jayaweera Bandara and Sunil Gunawardena also spoke.
