Colombo this week became the latest destination on the Emirates network to receive the award-winning airline`s innovative internet check-in facility.
Emirates` passengers departing from Colombo can now select and secure their preferred seats online, and check in for their flights from the comfort of their homes, hotels or offices, by logging on to www.emirates.com.
The new and convenient option for customers to check in for their flights via the Internet will enable them to select their preferred seats, saving them time at the airport.
When checking in online, passengers will be prompted to enter their travel information, and will be able to select their seats from amongst those available at the time of check-in. Once the check-in process has been completed, they will be provided an online check-in receipt.
They can then proceed to a dedicated counter at the airport to check in their luggage and exchange their online check-in receipt for boarding passes. Passengers are required to present themselves at the airport counter no later than 90 minutes prior to departure.
Emirates Aico Manager Sri Lanka and Maldives Tissa Dibile said` `Emirates is pleased to introduce the online check-in facility in Colombo, which is an important destination on the Emirates network. We are confident our customers will welcome this new option to check in for their Emirates flights via the Internet.`
Currently, 70 per cent of Emirates network is covered through online check-in. In October 2005 the airline launched online check-in from Austrlia, New Zealand, Kuwait and UAE followed by all Far Eastern destinations on 15th November and from most European cities on 4th December. The result has been very positive with almost 7,500 passengers to date who have used and enjoyed the ease and convenience of the online facility. Colombo received the on-line check-in facility along with Bombay, New Delhi, Madrras, Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Dacca, Paris and Moscow on December 19.
Bibile added: `Emirates continually looks for new ways to enhance our services, and this is just one example. We will be adding new capabilities to our online eheck-in service in the near future.`
Emirates` online check-in facility is available between 12 hours and two hours prior to flight departure. Passengers can check in for groups of up to nine persons travelling together as well as for onward flights, providing the travel commences on Emirates.
Emirates operates 13 flights a week from Colombo to Dubai, and four flights a week from Colombo to Singapore.
