Did LTTE use `thermobaric` weapons?

Suspicions have arisen in police and military circles whether the LTTE had used the banned `thermobaric` weapons to kill the 13 sailors on Friday at Mannar.
Mannar Police HQI Sudath Asmadala told the Daily Mirror that considering the initial investigation, the attack had been carried out using `thermobaric` weapon, which can burn everything instantly in the targeted range.
'Following this shocking finding, we have asked the Government Analyst to carry out a special investigation into the matter as this type of weapons are banned all over the world,' he said. He also said that soon after the incident, the military personnel who visited the scene were surprised to see the bodies beyond recognition.
'Rocket-propelled grenades can not do such harm to the human body and we strongly believe that the attackers had used the world banned `thermoberic` weapon, he said.
Thirteen sailors were killed and another two injured, when two claymore mines were exploded targeting a Navy convoy at Pesalai in Mannar on Friday. Soon after the blasts, the LTTE had fired at the damaged vehicles using small arms and heavy weapons.

In the next war the World community will be surprised of some of the weapons LTTE has bought. The LTTE will stop at nothing in order to kill and injure soldiers and civilians. LTTE have never respected Human Rights and the Geneva Convention is used as toilet paper in Prabakaran's bunker.
We have seen Janes Intelligence review reporting of a LTTE shopping spree in Asia. We have seen reports of purchase of Ukrainian submarines and old Russian weather Alazan missiles with dirty bomb payload. In the 'old' arsenal we have the suicide bombers. Thousands of children have been kidnapped and of them several dozens have been trained to be suicide bombers. According to informed sources four suicide bombing teams is currently waiting for orders in Colombo. Targets is allegedly EPDP politicians, The President and The Army chief.
While everyone is waiting, more weapons is bought with funds from the Tamil Diaspora. In LTTE fundraising events Anton Balasingham has been speaking about purchase of a 'special weapons'. Everyone has anticipated he was speaking about SAMS, but it could be more scary weapons.
Norway is continuing to pour money into the so called LTTE 'peace' secretariat, who's main mission is to blame LTTE atrocities on Colonel Karuna, The SLA, Navy or an unknown third party with stolen uniforms.
I doubt it will be a happy new year in 2006 for Sri Lankans.

Actually american army is only starting to implement usage of thermobaric weaponry in their arsenal as well. But in my opinion I doubt the LTTE has actually built the required technological infrastructure to create this weaponry , either it was procured off of the black market, i think the police are just being fearmongers... It doesn't matter as the SLA also have these weapons and have been reported to have used them a few times as well. Thermobaric weaponry is best suited for urban warfare... fancy the highrises of the commercial/economic heartland of colombo ;)

Most analysts believe the LTTE has not any atomic bomb. Even though they have in the 1990's cooperated with Pakistani intelligence it is unlikely they have been able to buy anything from Pakistan. The inventor of the Pakistani Atom bomb, Dr. Abdul Q. Kahn has been selling know how to various nations but not to the LTTE. www.acronym.org.uk/dd/dd76/76cc.htm
Another possible source of atomic weapons is North Korea. LTTE has previously bought boats and weapons from North Korea but it is unlikely the North Koreans would dare to sell any nuclear bombs to a terrorist organisation.

Unlikely the LTTE have been able to buy from the former Soviet Union, even tough we know they bought substantial arsenal of explosives from Ukraine who has been used in various terrorist attacks.
40 kilos of weapon grade nuclear material disappears every years from the former Soviet republics. 20 kilo is enough to build an atomic bomb. Norway will not help the LTTE acquiring nuclear weapons. Norway has been heavily condemned for selling the necessary materials enabling Israel to build their own atomic bombs in 1959 http://newswww.bbc.net.uk/1/hi/uk/4515708.stm .
There is also unlikely the LTTE will get any 'dirty bomb' material from the small Norwegian nuclear reactor in Halden. This reactor is purely for scientific use and to sterilise food.
We can rest assure the LTTE has no Atomic weapons, but they can have small missiles capable of carrying dirty payloads. These missiles have been available in the market from suppliers we know have had contact with the LTTE.
India, Russia, USA and China should be aware of the risk terrorist organisation pose for the use of illegal weapons such as therobaric, chemical, biological and nuclear bombs.

Let us hope, when the war starts, the Superpowers take out the LTTE command bunkers in order to minimize the losses of innocent kidnapped Tamil children and the drafted youth in the SLA. We have seen how this technology has been used in the two Iraq wars in order to limit the number of casualties on both sides. Without the LTTE leaders the LTTE will be like a headless chicken.

Actually the LTTE only procured weaponry from the NK, the boats are indigenous design, one of my friends actually was part of the team responsible for it... The LTTE has no plans for nuclear weaponry whether it be dirty or clean...
those Pakistani links were only there for the purchase of AA missiles... They do have deep penetration mini-submarines, and airplanes, but these have an asymmetric purpose ;) they also possess UAVs... theres a few new projects being worked out right now, when I was there, rumours about EMPs were floating around... ;) |

Its not something new: wanni 'BARBARIANS' have used 'THERMOBARIC' weapons!
The Oslo terrorist gangs & other Tamil organizations who inflate wanni murderers arsenals should be held responsible for this dirty and coward state of affairs!!
A massive government attack against the butchers should take place sooner than later, to destroy all their weapons of mass destruction - (WMD).
Is it with this barbarians that the GOSL should have peace talks in Norway? Norway & the SLMM have secret ties and business ties with the tigers and their acts & decisions support the tigers in a great way to continue their deadly attacks!
Norway is definitely not the ideal venue for such talks.
The GOSL must be firm in selecting the place, even though the talks will not bring any reasonable gestures from the wanni tigers! |
