An international school situated in Greater Colombo has put up shutters suddenly leaving over eighty students in the lurch.
A spokesperson for the students parents said that the owner of the school called a sudden meeting last week and told them that he was closing down the school since he cannot afford to run it anymore.
`There was no notice whatsoever .He suddenly summoned us for a meeting, announced the bad news and gave us the leaving certificates of the students. He also told us that we could seek admission for our children at World Education College.`
The spokesperson, said that they cannot afford to once again pay the various fees that International Schools demand, purchase new books and also stitch new sets of uniforms.
Some parents who had more than one of their children attending the school said that they would have to stitch several new sets of uniforms which is simply beyond their means.
Parents of foreign students who attended the school have petitioned the Foreign Ministry asking it to intervene and ensure that justice is meted out.
