Security has been beefed up in the East following the continuous claymore mine attacks, by the LTTE, targeting security force convoys.
Army, Police and STF personnel were placed on alert following the third claymore mine blast, at Vanthamullai in Batticaloa last morning, which injured three solders.
The soldiers were in a convoy when the blast was triggered by the LTTE around 7.30 am, but the explosion missed its target.
The soldiers were returning after a routine route-clearing patrol when they were ambushed,` a military official here said.
There was a similar explosion aimed at a bus transporting 60 constables in Batticaloa on Sunday, the military said, adding the blast also narrowly missed the police.
Two earlier claymore mine blasts in the north resulted in death of 15 military personnel.
The Eravur police took into custody eight suspects following the detection of five claymore mines found hidden in a abandoned house at Eravur on Sunday.
