PVSM, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in- Chief of the Eastern Naval Command of India Vice Admiral Suresh Mehta will arrive in Sri Lanka today, accompanied by Mrs. M.T. Mehta and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of the Eastern Naval Command in India, Captain Ramesh Kumar.
They are to participate in the joint exercise between an Indian naval fleet and a Sri Lanka naval fleet organized to strengthen the ties between the two navies and the countries in view of furthering training standards. The Joint Naval exercise started on December 10 and will go on till December 16. INS Sukanya, INS Kirpan with a supporting fleet and a fleet of the Sri Lankan Navy are scheduled to participate.
Vice Admiral Suresh Mehta, PVSM, AVSM, who assumed the command of the premier Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy on September 30, 2005 had held various positions of the Indian Navy such as Assistant Controller of carrier projects, Assistant Chief of Personnel (Human Resource Development) and Director General, Coast Guard. He is credited for the service he rendered by the commencement of aircraft acquisition programmes, construction of air defence ships and the establishment of a strong, vibrant and visible Indian Coast Guard.
Captain Ramesh Kumara, a specialist in communication and electronic warfare, is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, India.
