President Mahinda Rajapakse, welcoming former US President Bill Clinton, on his third visit to Sri Lanka yesterday (29), said Clinton`s personal involvement in the post-tsunami reconstruction of Sri Lanka had been a great source of strength.
As we welcome you once again to our country we recall with pride and warmth the manner in which the international community responded to our tragedy last year. The picture of aid pouring in from all corners of the world for relief and rescue activities is etched for ever in the collective memory of our people. The United States was one of the first countries to reach us with humanitarian assistance, he said.
`After you last visited us, Excellency, natural disaster visited your country too in the form of Hurricane Katrina with tragic loss of life and property. Having faced a similar disaster ourselves only a few months before, let me say all Sri Lankans stood solidly with the American people in their moment of grief and suffering,` President Rajapakse said.
