The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has decided to remain in the opposition without accepting any Cabinet portfolios in the present government, party`s parliamentary group leader Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera said yesterday.
Ven. Ratana Thera said they would support the government`s moves if they were brought for the future good of the people and that they would mainly play an advisory role in government affairs.
?We will support the government both in Parliament and outside if they take positive steps for the country`s future progress, after studying their contents. We will support the budget too in such manner. We will guide the government in the right direction,? he said. He said they would also urge the government to implement the policy agreement reached between President Mahinda Rajapakse before the Presidential poll.
?We have agreed on national policies like safeguarding the unitary status of the country among others. We will support the President to implement these policies,? he said. Asked about the controversial Anti-Conversion Bill, he said it had already been presented to Parliament as a Private Members` Bill and therefore the MPs had the democratic right to vote for or against it during voting time.
