The Commissioner is reported to have emphasised that such a show would be a serious violation of the election laws. Rupavahini and SLBC on Monday midnight stopped carrying political advertisements and this had been brought to the notice of the Competent Authority whose appointment came into effect hours before the deadline came into operation at midnight on Monday. Well informed sources said that Rupavahini authorities had immediately acted on Dissanayake`s instructions after receiving the polls chief`s letter on Monday evening. Government sources said that the privately-owned television stations continued their campaign
