Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe yesterday (29) said he will resign his post and find employment abroad after the forthcoming Presidential Election. He also said he was prepared to accept any decision President Chandrika Kumaratunga makes regarding his position.
He said the SLBC is facing financial problems due to heavy losses and he found it difficult to manage the organisation as the income when compared with private broadcasting stations was much less.
SLBC News and Current Affairs Director Raja Katu was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after being assaulted, allegedly by some private security personnel of the SLBC last Tuesday (25), while he was in the office of the Chairman. SLBC trade unions alleged that the Chairman was behind the assault on Katugampola who had been a critic of the administrative policy of the Chairman.
Meanwhile the SLBC Employees Union, in a press statement , condemned the physical assault on the News Director in the presence of the Chairman and the violation of human rights of a senior staff member within the premises of the SLBC which they said was in fact a violation of human rights of all employees.
The statement issued yesterday also said all trade unions, irrespective of political or other differences, demand an immediate impartial inquiry into the assault by a private security agency personnel, hired at a high cost by the SLBC and all responsible for the shameful attack on the News Director should be punished however highly placed those persons were.
