The Medical Supplies Division (MSD) of the Health Ministry has imported catheters worth Rs. 500 million without any immediate need, Ministry sources told The Island yesterday. The MSD had already received four containers and three more containers of the catheters are on the way, a senior official of the Ministry said.
The spokesman said that however, a doctor attached to the MSDhas forced them to remove the stock of catheters which were in stock on the ground that their expiry date had elapsed.
Health trade unions however allege collusion with suppliers. The doctor`s name has also been linked to the case of Meningitis contaminated syringes.
