The Bolgoda Junior School, Bandaragama, which was established in July, 1943 is on the verge of closure due to lack of students.
At present, there are only sixteen students and four teachers. The school is located in a four acre land donated by well known Philanthropist Wilmat Perera.
Until 1982, classes upto year 10 were conducted, and in the year 2003 it was made a primary school.
Mrs. K. D. Kusumawathi the present Principal of the school said only parents of poor families sent their children to school while other parents had opted for urban schools for their children.
She further said that the school had received only ten applications this year.
A past student of the school said in the year 1960 there had been more than two hundred students at the school.
