The Department of Meteorology has released an 'Amber' alert for heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters over the next 24 hours in various regions of Sri Lanka. The department noted that the Northeast monsoon is starting to set in across the island. As a result, there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces. Some areas in the Northern, Eastern, and North-Central provinces may experience heavy rainfall surpassing 100mm. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from heavy rain, strong winds, and intense lightning during thundershowers.
