Sri Lanka s opposition to propose PSOP initiative to promote global peace and prosperity
Sri Lanka's Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has announced plans for a new initiative called "PSOP," which stands for Peace, Stability, Order, and Prosperity. This initiative aims to enhance both regional and global peace while tackling significant socio-economic issues. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Premadasa highlighted the necessity for countries to work together and the need for a fresh global approach to ensure stability, especially with increasing geopolitical tensions. His comments came in response to inquiries about the Iranian warship IRIS Dena, which was sunk by a US submarine about 40 nautical miles from Galle's coast. Premadasa acknowledged that there were early reports indicating potential concerns from the US regarding Sri Lanka's decision to host Iranian sailors and allow the ship to dock at local ports. However, he mentioned that the US government ultimately allowed Sri Lanka to choose its own path. He emphasized that the issue goes beyond this specific incident in the Indian Ocean, stressing the importance of keeping the region peaceful and free of nuclear threats. According to Premadasa, the current state of global affairs shows a "vacuum in the global order," which calls for a realignment among nations and renewed efforts for peaceful cooperation. He expressed that the Opposition plans to introduce the PSOP program to counteract global power struggles and focus on critical issues such as poverty eradication, growth, and prosperity. Premadasa also pointed out urgent global challenges, including rising oil prices, hyperinflation, and climate change, stating that these issues need joint international solutions.
