Chinthaka Hewapathirana from the National People’s Power (NPP) has been chosen as the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha. He was elected today (02) after receiving 22 votes in support, while 21 votes were against him. With this victory, the National People’s Power took control of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha by a narrow one-vote margin. The position had been unfilled since the tragic murder of the former Chairman, Lasantha Wickramasekara, who was killed in his office on October 22.
