The cost of gold in Sri Lanka has surged due to a steady rise in global prices. On Monday, gold prices hit a record high of over US$ 5,100 as investors looked for safety amidst international political unrest, while silver and platinum also reached new peaks. This morning, the gold price climbed past US$ 5,250. As a result, the price of a 22-carat gold sovereign in the Pettah gold market has increased to Rs. 379,600 today (28). Recent figures from the Colombo Pettah Gold Market show that prices have gone up by Rs. 10,000 today. Additionally, traders reported that the price of a 24-carat gold sovereign has now risen to Rs. 405,000 as of this morning.
