Saman Ekanayake, the former Secretary to the President, has been ordered to remain in custody until February 11 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, according to a report by Ada Derana. He is facing charges related to a case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is accused of misusing Rs. 16.6 million in public funds during a trip to the United Kingdom in 2023. Ekanayake appeared in the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was also present at the court for a scheduled hearing. During the session, the Attorney General informed the court that the investigation into Wickremesinghe is expected to conclude within a month, with formal charges likely to be filed in March. This information was presented by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who represented the Attorney General. The case was heard by Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara today.
