Thushari Tennakoon, the District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya, has advised drivers to avoid traveling on roads to Nuwara Eliya at night. She highlighted the increased risk of landslides due to the current weather conditions. This message was shared during a media briefing yesterday afternoon (11) at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat. The District Secretary explained that her warning comes after a recent earth mound collapsed onto the GampolaNuwara Eliya main road in the Katukithula area. This part of the road had just reopened to traffic, but the unstable conditions still make it dangerous, she noted. Tennakoon also mentioned that following the effects of the 'Ditwah' cyclone, all necessary relief, including food supplies, has been delivered to residents affected in the district. Furthermore, she rejected claims from some groups, both those impacted and not impacted, suggesting that the government’s relief efforts were lacking. She stressed that these claims are untrue and seem aimed at confusing the public and hindering government work.
