An organized crime gang member, Hikkaduwa Liyanage Sahan Sisikelum, alias Midigama Sahan, was arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the arrival terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night while returning from India.
The 32-year-old suspect, a resident of Weligama, is reportedly linked to multiple murders and robberies in the Matara and Panadura police divisions. Authorities said he is a known associate of the notorious underworld leader Nadun Chinthaka Wickremeratne, alias Harak Kata, who is currently in custody. He was also closely associated with another organized criminal, Midigama Chuti.
Sahan had arrived at the airport aboard IndiGo flight 6E-1173 from Chennai at around 6:30 p.m. last night. CID officers, acting on prior intelligence, arrested him at the arrival terminal.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Kalutara Crime Division for further investigations and legal proceedings.
