Former State Minister and Parliamentarian Sujeewa Senasinghe was today released on a surety bail of Rs. 200,000 by Fort Chief Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura over a case involving the alleged illegal assembly of a luxury vehicle valued at approximately Rs. 100 million.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) filed charges against Senasinghe, who pleaded not guilty during the court proceedings.
The suspect had previously provided a statement to the CCD regarding the incident.
Several senior members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), including Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Parliamentarians Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Kabir Hashim, Mano Ganesan and Mujibur Rahuman, were present in court to show their support for Senasinghe.
At a prior hearing, the Magistrate had ordered the suspect to appear before the court today and submit medical reports confirming his claim of having received overseas medical treatment.
