The office of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe denied media reports pertaining to his visit to the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom on September 8, 2023.Â
The statement called the reports misleading and false.
Earlier this week, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed court that a special investigation has been launched into a private overseas trip allegedly undertaken by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe using government funds.
According to the police, the details of the investigation were submitted to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court through a B-report.
It was reported that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had travelled to the United Kingdom to attend his wife’s PhD graduation ceremony.
However, Wickremesinghe denied all related allegations and said a formal statement will be released soon after seeking legal advice.
