Renowned British actor Jeremy Irons, a recipient of both Oscar and Emmy Awards, arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake last night to take part in a film being shot in Sri Lanka.
According to a spokesperson from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, this marks the first visit by a Hollywood actor of such stature to the country in over 12 years.
Jeremy Irons is set to star in the upcoming film ‘A Caged Bird’, directed by acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Ratnam.Â
Featuring internationally recognized, award-winning talent, the production aims to position Sri Lanka as a prominent destination for film tourism and to attract global attention from fans of such actors and cinema enthusiasts.
Irons arrived in Sri Lanka from Mumbai, India, aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-144, which landed at 11:00 p.m. on June 17.
He was warmly welcomed at the airport by Harendra Wijewardene, Deputy Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, along with Chaminda Munasinghe, Assistant Director of the International Filmmaking and Promotion Division.
