A businessman has been handed a suspended six-month prison sentence and fined Rs. 10,000 after being found guilty of displaying expired medicines for sale at a pharmacy in the Kawdana area of Dehiwala.
According to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), the expired stock was uncovered during a raid conducted on February 7, 2025.Â
Following a thorough investigation, legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect.
The case was taken up at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court on May 30, where the businessman pleaded guilty to the offence.Â
The court imposed a six-month sentence, suspended for 10 years, along with the monetary penalty.
