A medical laboratory in Malwana (Biyagama Hospital- Malwana) was fined Rs. 500,000 by the Mahara Magistrate’s Court yesterday (2) for overcharging patients for a Full Blood Count (FBC) test report.
According to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), the laboratory pleaded guilty to charging more than the gazetted maximum fee for the test. The current maximum fee permitted for a Full Blood Count (FBC) test report, as set by the CAA, is Rs. 400.
The CAA said that legal action was taken following an investigation prompted by public complaints. The authority reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and warned that strict legal measures will continue against establishments found violating pricing regulations.
