A record gain of revenue amounting to over Rs. 83 billion has been achieved by the Department of Excise during the first four months of this year, even surpassing the stipulated target for the period by Rs. 3 billion.Â
The department being on the third position in the list of revenue generating arms of the Ministry of Finance has been given a target of Rs. 242 billion to fulfill during 2025 and the progress report has been summoned by Excise Chief U.L. Udaya Kumara Perera last week.Â
Therefore, the target of revenue for the period from January 1st to April 30th this year, which has been set by the Ministry of Finance, was Rs.80.5 billion.Â
However, the department has achieved Rs.83.6 billion for the stipulated period, Departmental Media Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner A.A. Roshan Perera said.
