LNP – Govt to introduce mechanism to deal with child molesting cases: PM

The Government is to introduce a mechanism to deal with child molesting cases brininging the relevant Ministries and other institutions together, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya told Parliament today.Â

“We will introduce a mechanism to deal with child molesting cases brininging in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Police and National Child Care and Protection Authority etc. in order to prevent child molesting and to deal with such eventualies when they are reported,” the Prime Minister said.Â

“An explanation has been called for from the principal of the school which the 13 year old girl from Kotahena had attended during the time she was subjected to molesting. An explanation has been called for from the principal also for not taking action against the teacher who molested the child,” she added.Â

Parliament became tensed when the Opposition took up the issue on the 13 year old girl  in Kotahena who committed suiside after she was molested by a school teacher.
