LNP – Five arrested in alleged gang rape of woman in Welipenna

The Welipenna Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and gang rape of a 45-year-old woman inside a three-wheeler and a house.

According to the victim’s complaint, the abduction occurred around on Monday after she got off from a bus at the 05th Post junction in Galmatta town around 8:50 PM.Â

Three men in a three-wheeler forcibly took her inside the three-wheelr and raped her.

She further said that the suspects then took her to a house, where they contacted two others by phone

The two men later arrived on a motorcycle and also sexually assaulted her. The victim told the police that she had identified four of the suspects.

The arrested suspects, aged 19, 23, 24, and 38, were identified as residents of the Meegama area.Â

They were to be produced before the Mathugama Magistrate’s Court today.

The Welipenna Police are conducting further investigations.
